Travel to & from School

Millais School is very well connected and accessible. We are fortunate to have strong public transport links in and around Horsham. Our students come to school in different ways be it by bike, bus, car, foot or train.

Horsham Train Station is a 10 minutes walk and is well serviced throughout the day. Horsham Town Centre is within 1 mile of the school. Please explore the sections below and if you have any questions, please contact us.

Cycling to Millais

Millais has a covered bike shelter by the Sports Hall - quad side available to students.

Whilst Millais is a secure environment we would encourage all cyclists to exercise best practice and use a bike lock whilst they are parked onsite. Cyclists should also wear a bike helmet.

Getting the bus

A large number of students travel to and from school by bus. Our school buses drop off and depart from Depot Road.

At 3.00pm, students catching a bus home should report to the Main School Hall and join the relevant bus queue. Travel prefects assist staff in boarding the students safely onto the buses and have defined responsibilities for the duration of their journey. Late buses exist to enable students to travel home safely after attending Extended School Activities (see below).

Can anyone get on a bus?

Students that meet the criteria are able to travel on specific school buses that service Millais School - details can be found here

It is important your child does not get on a bus without having been allocated a pass (as they will be refused travel)

Normally it is the responsibility of parents/carers to get their children to and from school safely.  However, your child may be able to get free transport to school if they meet one of the three criteria set out by West Sussex County Council.                              Find out if your child is entitled to free school transport and how to apply here.

WSCC Concessionary Seat Scheme

In parts of West Sussex, the County Council provides coaches, buses, minibuses and taxis for pupils who are entitled to assistance with transport between home and school. Sometimes there are spare seats on these vehicles which can be made available to pupils who do not qualify for assistance. These spare seats are called concessionary seats, for which a termly ticket may be purchased. Concessionary seats are not available on public transport.

To apply for a seat please refer to the WSCC website for more information, including the relevant forms.
