Our curriculum at Millais is designed to provide every student with a...

broad, balanced and ambitious education that enables them to acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to succeed in education, employment and life. We believe that all students, regardless of their starting points or background, have the right to access a challenging curriculum that inspires curiosity, develops resilience and promotes a lifelong love of learning.

Our curriculum is carefully planned and coherently sequenced so that students build secure knowledge over time. Learning is structured to enable students to make meaningful connections within and across subjects, ensuring that new learning builds on prior understanding and prepares them for future study. Subject specialists have identified the essential knowledge, concepts and vocabulary that students need to know and remember, enabling them to develop increasing confidence and expertise within each discipline.

High-quality teaching supports the successful implementation of our curriculum. Teachers use their expert subject knowledge to present new learning clearly, address misconceptions and adapt teaching where appropriate so that all students can achieve well. Regular opportunities to revisit and apply previously taught knowledge help students retain learning in their long-term memory and become increasingly fluent in their understanding.

We are committed to ensuring that our curriculum is inclusive and accessible for all learners. Appropriate support, adaptation and challenge enable every student, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and disadvantaged students, to participate fully and achieve their potential without reducing the ambition of the curriculum.

Beyond academic achievement, our curriculum promotes students' personal development by fostering confidence, creativity, independence and respect for others. Through enrichment opportunities, careers education, reading, literacy, numeracy and the development of character, students gain the cultural understanding, social awareness and practical skills needed to become responsible, informed and active citizens.

Our curriculum is continually reviewed and refined to ensure it remains relevant, evidence-informed and responsive to the needs of our students and community. Success is measured not only through examination outcomes but through the extent to which students know more, remember more and can do more, leaving our school well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life in modern Britain.
