Millais is moving to Co-Ed form September 2026.  Please do contact us if you have any queries around this transition and if they aren't addressed in the FAQ's below.

How many Boys will you take in September?

Our PAN is 300 and we are planning for a 50/50 boy/girl split 

What is the Admission Criteria?

Admissions and oversubscription criteria are managed by West Sussex County Council.  Further details can be found on their website https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/education-children-and-families/schools-and-colleges/school-places/ WSCC manage school admissions for all schools 

Are you taking boys in all year groups?

No, from September 2026, Millais will welcome boys into Year 7 only while existing year groups will continue as girls-only. 

How many boys in a class?

We are planning for a 50/50 split with a minimum of 6 boys in each class 

Will you have separate toilet and changing room facilities?

Yes, WSCC are spending £1.5 million on new toilet and changing facilities for boys.  The planning and development of this is underway. 

Are you teachers ready for co-ed teaching? 

Yes, all of our teaching staff have been trained in a variety of settings with the majority having previously taught in a Co-Ed environment.   

What is the uniform?

The uniform is currently under review and will be confirmed shortly 

How will you make boys feel welcome?

Our current transition offer includes:

As secondary applications are being decided:​

  1. Millais Year 5 and 6 taster workshops – PE / Creative Arts / Science etc.​
  2. Millais 'All About Our School' talks at primary schools hosted by Millais staff and Millais student ambassadors ​
  3. Millais Summer Discovery Taster day for Y5​
  4. Millais Open Evening and Open Day Tours​
  5. Millais Parent Q and A evening events ​

Once secondary places have been confirmed:​

  1. Year 6 workshops before Easter (Parents stay for transition talk)​
  2. Millais staff visits to feeder primary schools with large intake​
  3. Visits to Millais for students who are arriving as an individual / small number from primary school​
  4. Additional visits for students with SEN or in need of extra support​
  5. Millais Summer Discovery School hosted at the start of the Summer holiday for Yr 6 students transitioning to Millais​

On arrival to Millais:​

  1. Pastoral Team – Director of Year (DOY) / Student Support Lead (SSL) / SLT Link / Tutor per Tutor Group ​
  2. Prefect Leadership Team are assigned a tutor group to help with movement around the site / be the 'older sibling' to help with student needs​
  3. Early lunch / early leave for buses / no homework – first two weeks​

During the year:​

  1. Team Building events ​
  2. Year group disco/social event (October)​
  3. Movie nights​
  4. Interform competitions​
  5. Extracurricular offer (focus for later)​
  6. Big School Camp​

Our current offer is evolving to reflect moving to Co-Ed.  We will be working with current and new families to ensure we are responsive and we welcome all views in enhancing our transition offer.

What will the Curriculum look like for boys?
